How to cook ofe Owerri


  • Ugu leaves (chopped)
  • Uziza leaves (small quantity)
  • Goat meat
  • Stockfish
  • Smoked or dried fish
  • Cocoyam (mashed)
  • Ground crayfish
  • Ogiri
  • Seasoning cubes
  • Palm oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Cooking steps

  • Soak the stockfish, wash, and boil until tender
  • Wash the goat meat, put in a pot and cook separately
  • Put the goat meat and the stockfish in a pot and cook for few minutes
  • Then add all the ingredients, mix, and stir for 10mins
  • Add the mashed cocoyam and mix until it dissolves and thickens the soup
  • Allow to boil for 30mins and continue to stir. Then allow simmering for another 10 minutes.
  • Put off the heat, your ofe Owerri is ready.
