Crohn’s disease has no medical cure and it fluctuates between periods of inactivity and activity. This disease tends to be more common in relatives of people suffering from it. In some cases, that is severe cases, Crohn’s disease can lead to fissures in the lining of the anus which may cause pain and bleed especially during bowel movements. Crohn’s disease can cause other parts of the body (eyes, skin, mouth, and joints) to be inflamed due to chronic inflammatory activity. As a result of this disease, the patient may develop gallstones and kidney stones. Children who suffer from this disease may experience decreased growth or delayed sexual development.
Causes of Crohn’s Disease
The cause of this disease is not known yet. But there are possible factors that may trigger the disease to start. They include:
- Genetic factor
- Oral contraceptive pills and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen.
- Cigarette smoking: this disease is more common in smokers than in non-smokers. Smokers tend to have more severe diseases compared to non-smokers.
